SB04-E Small Bang

The cosmic explosion on your wrist

The cosmic explosion on your wrist

For centuries, Japanese masters have elevated lacquer into an art of light and depth. With the SB04-E “Small Bang”, Sartory-Billard brings this ancestral tradition into contemporary watchmaking.

A dial born of Raden — the inlay of mother-of-pearl into lacquer — transforms each watch into an embrace of chaos.

In a world where horology demands absolute precision, it rejects the grid of order for an explosion of fragments — a controlled mess of light and matter celebrating the unexpected.

No two explosions are ever the same.

The Artist – Tatsuya Todo (Kosetsu)

Born in 1954 in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Tatsuya Todo apprenticed under legendary masters before becoming a certified traditional craftsman for Yamanaka lacquerware.

His creations have been awarded the Grand Prize at the Tanko Biennial and exhibited in Japan’s most prestigious shows.

Today, he continues to transmit this fragile heritage as a lecturer while creating artworks of rare intensity.

Each dial made for Sartory-Billard is a one-of-a-kind piece, the fruit of days of labor and decades of mastery.

The Dial – A Small Bang of Light

The SB04-E “Small Bang” presents Raden like never before.

From the center, ultra-thin mother-of-pearl strips radiate outward in a graphic burst, evoking a cosmic explosion.

Beneath the sapphire minutes ring, tiny round mother-of-pearl particles float in suspension — fragments of the blast caught in orbit.

Raden is a centuries-old technique that requires slicing shells into hair-thin layers, cutting them by hand, and embedding them into lacquer. Each fragment is placed with tweezers, dried naturally, polished, and refined through successive stages.

The process is long and unforgiving: a single dial demands many days of patient work, where the slightest mistake can undo hours of effort.

The result is an iridescent canvas alive with shifting shades of green, violet, and blue — a chaotic explosion of light that is unique to each watch and impossible to reproduce.

The Watch

The SB04-E case, crafted in stainless steel, alternates brushed and polished surfaces that emphasize its architectural design.

It is water-resistant to 100 meters and delivered with both a steel bracelet and a rubber strap, offering versatility from formal elegance to casual comfort.

Diamond-cut luminous hands and indexes ensure readability, while a Swiss automatic movement provides precision and reliability.

The watch itself is understated, designed to let the dial — the “Small Bang” — shine as the true protagonist.

Form around your wrist

The SB04-E “Small Bang” was designed with ergonomics at its core.

Its 39.5mm case hugs the wrist, slim yet robust, and disappears in wear.

Comfortable in every situation, adaptable with its interchangeable straps, the watch becomes a natural extension of the wearer.

On the wrist, time itself seems to radiate outward — a fragment of creation captured in steel.

The material and artistry

At the origin of every SB04-E “Small Bang” lies raw mother-of-pearl — shell transformed by centuries of Japanese craft into a luminous art form.

Through Raden, ultra-thin lamellae of mother-of-pearl are cut, inlaid, dried, and polished over days of hand labor.

This process reveals the mother-of-pearl’s natural iridescence: shifting tones of green, violet, and blue that no paint could imitate.

This is not industrial decoration — it is authentic craft, requiring time, patience, and the irreplaceable touch of a master’s hands.

Each dial is unique, unrepeatable, and timeless.

Two Versions of the Small Bang

The SB04-E “Small Bang” is available in two distinct interpretations of light and color:

  • Green Edition

Radiating vibrant emerald and turquoise tones, the green Small Bang comes fitted on a black rubber strap. Its shifting mother-of-pearl inlays evoke a burst of spring energy, luminous and alive.

  • Purple Edition

Revealing deep violet and subtle blue shades, the purple Small Bang is paired with a dark blue rubber strap. Elegant and mysterious, it suggests the quiet beauty of a cosmic night sky.

Every watch is also delivered with a complimentary stainless-steel bracelet, equipped with quick-release pins for effortless interchangeability. Switching between straps requires no tools, allowing the watch to adapt instantly from casual wear to refined elegance.
