SB04-E TIME+TIDE NEW YORK

The Golden Facades of Manhattan

New York Through an Art Deco Lens

Created in collaboration with Time+Tide, the SB04-E Time+Tide New York draws inspiration from the Art Deco spirit of New York in the 1920s and 1930s. Rather than paying tribute to a single landmark, the watch seeks to capture an atmosphere: monumental lobbies, metallic surfaces, soaring vertical lines and the interplay of light that defined the city during that era.

The dial brings together architecture, interior design and graphic composition in a design built around depth, contrast and light.

A Miniature Piece of Architecture on the Wrist

The central dial pattern features repeating arches, elongated lines and geometric rhythms inspired by American Art Deco architecture. Certain elements evoke both the vertical facades of Manhattan and the brass grilles, decorative panels and elevator doors found throughout New York buildings of the 1930s.

Rather than reproducing a specific building, the dial brings together multiple architectural influences to create an original and balanced composition. Its different levels and textures give the centre of the dial an almost architectural presence, like a miniature structure sculpted from metal.

The Warmth of Bronze, Brass and Light

The colours were developed around the warm reflections created when late afternoon light strikes New York's metalwork and glass surfaces.

The metallic brown base adds depth and richness, while the rose-gold-toned engravings reveal warmer coppery reflections depending on the viewing angle. The gold accents recall Art Deco interiors, metal elevator doors, geometric ceilings and the warm materials found throughout New York's historic buildings.

As the light changes, the dial constantly shifts between deep espresso tones, warm bronze hues and flashes of gold. This constant transformation is an integral part of the project: the watch was designed to respond to light much like an architectural metal surface.

Typography, Relief and Depth

For the first time on a Sartory-Billard production series, this edition features applied numerals mounted directly onto the dial surface. This construction adds further depth and reinforces the overall sense of volume.

The typography was specially designed for Sartory-Billard by Simon Schmidt, who also created the numerals used on the SB10 collection. Their elongated proportions and vertical stance subtly draw from American Art Deco graphic design. The markers also incorporate the distinctive "Y" shapes that have become a recurring signature of the brand, a subtle reference to Paris and the Eiffel Tower, both of which have played an important role in Armand Billard's visual universe.

The polished concave hands, whose shape evokes a fountain pen nib, further contribute to the watch's sense of depth and refinement.

The dial itself features a slightly concave surface with a sunray-brushed finish radiating from the centre, while a subtle fumé effect gradually darkens the outer edge to enhance visual depth.

A Skyline Engraved in Metal

On the caseback, the New York skyline is engraved into the metal as a discreet signature. An instantly recognisable silhouette, symbolising creativity, energy and independence, echoing both the spirit of Time+Tide and the character of this special edition.

Surrounding the central medallion, the fluted caseback decoration plays with light and creates visual rhythms reminiscent of New York's architectural forms and metallic structures.

More than a technical element, this engraved caseback celebrates the meeting between Sartory-Billard and Time+Tide through an edition conceived as a tribute to New York.

An Interpretation of the SB04-E

The SB04-E is a three-hand automatic collection developed around the dial, its textures and its construction. Produced in small series, it allows Sartory-Billard to explore a wide range of aesthetic directions, from guilloché and natural stone dials to architectural engravings and multi-level constructions.

With its 39.5 mm case and clean design, this edition places the dial and its reliefs at the centre of the experience. The metal ring framing the composition has become one of the collection's signatures, reinforcing both the structure and visual depth of the overall design.

For this edition, the dial was deliberately designed without a floating sapphire disc above its main surface, allowing a more direct view of the engravings, textures and metallic finishes.
